Make It Monday #9 – Emboss Resist

Make It Monday #9 – Emboss Resist

Welcome to this weeks Make It Monday tutorial.  I’m super excited to share with you another clean & simple one layer design.  This time I’ve added interest by using an emboss resist technique and sponging.

I started by stamping my greeting from the Butterfly Basics stamp set, in Black Ink centered at the bottom of my Whisper White piece of cardstock.  I stamped my flower image from the same stamp set in versamark ink and heat embossed with a heat tool and clear embossing powder.

Then came the fun part, sponging Pink Pirouette ink across the embossed image.

Click HERE to Download your free PDF Tutorial

Supplies:

  • Stamps – Butterfly Basics
  • Ink – Black Memento Ink, Pink Pirouette Classic Ink
  • PaperPink Pirouette, Basic Black, Whisper White CS
  • Other Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Sponges

Dimensions:

  • Pink Pirouette CS – 4-1/2” x 9” scored at 4-1/2” to create a 4-1/2” x 4-1/2” cardbase
  • Basic Black CS – 5-7/8” x 3-3/4” piece
  • Whisper White CS – 5-7/8” x 5-5/8”

Directions:

  1. Stamp the greeting on the Whisper White CS, about ¼” up from the bottom, centered between the left and right hand sides, using Memento Black Ink
  2. Rub an embossing buddy over the surface of the Whisper White CS
  3. Stamp the flower image on the Whisper White CS about ¼” above the greeting using versamark ink. Sprinkle clear embossing powder over the stamped image.  Tap off the excess embossing powder.  Heat this with a heat tool until the embossing powder has melted
  4. Apply ink around the embossed image, using a wedge of a stamping sponge and Pink Pirouette Classic Ink
  5. Stick the Whisper White CS to the Basic Black CS leaving equal borders on the left and right hand sides
  6. Stick the matted Basic Black CS to the Pink Pirouette cardbase leaving equal borders to the left and right hand sides. You’re Done!

Make It Monday #8 – Adding a Glitter Border

Make It Monday #8 – Adding a Glitter Border

Last week I shared a tip “How to create a Glitter Border”  read about it HERE.  Today I thought I would share with you how to create the project using this technique.

I started off with a piece of Crumb Cake CS and placed  my tear tape all around the edge, after pealing the backing away, I sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds glitter tapping off the excess.

I’ve stamped my greeting and flower image from the Birthday Blooms stamp set using the new stamparatus tool.  I love how simple this card was to create.

Click HERE to Download your free PDF Tutorial

Supplies:

  • Stamps – Birthday Blooms
  • Ink – Early Espresso, Calypso Coral
  • Paper – Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake CS

Dimensions:

  • Calypso Coral CS – 4-1/2” x 9” scored at 4-1/2” to create a 4-1/2” x 4-1/2” cardbase
  • Crumb Cake CS – 5-5/8” x 4” piece and a 5-1/8” x 3-1/2” piece

Directions:

  1. Apply tear tape around the outer perimeter of the larger crumb cake cardstock. Remove the backing and apply glitter, set aside
  2. Using a stampartus or stamp-a-ma-jig stamp the greeting in early espresso ink and the flower in calypso coral ink on the smaller crumb cake CS piece
  3. Adhere the stamped panel to the glitter panel using stampin dimentionals
  4. Adhere the matted glitter panel to the cardbase using double sided adhesive
  5. Add some rhinestones. You’re done!

Weekend Challenge #3

Weekend Challenge #3

This week we have a sketch challenge.  I use to think sketches were hard, but after you’ve done a few they become quite easy and to be honest a sketch is now my go to for inspiration when I need a “Kickstart in my Creativity”

How to Use a Sketch

Sketches are basically blueprints for your creativity. Sketches are made up of different shapes and elements and are basically an outline to follow.  The purpose of a sketch is to give you inspiration for the layout of your card design.

I’ve stamped the outline image of the flower from Garden Bloom stamp set with Rich Razzleberry ink over the top portion of my cardbase.  The bottom portion is 2″ x 5-7/8″ piece DSP from the Garden Bloom DSP pack.

I’ve stamped my greeting from Teeny Tiny Sentiments in Rich Razzleberry Ink, and finished my card with some Whisper White Bakers Twine.

Alternative Tips & Ideas

There are different ways you can interpret this sketch try one of the following suggestions

  • Emboss a piece of cardstock with your favourite embossing folder to add texture or your favourite Patterned Paper
  • Change the orientation of the sketch design and create a portrait card
  • Replace the bow for a button

Now it’s Your Turn

Create a project using the sketch above as inspiration.  Add your project to our Facebook Group HERE

Tip & Technique: How To Create a Glitter Border

Tip & Technique: How To Create a Glitter Border

Today I want to  share one of my favourite techniques—using tear tape with glitter. I just love the extra bling glitter can add to any project. I find this technique is the easiest way to use glitter and let’s face it, we all have jars of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter just sitting around unused waiting to be cracked open. Am I right? (Maybe it’s just me) I use tear tape but you can use any type of tape adhesive for this technique.

First, place the tape where you want it. A tip on laying the tape perfectly straight is to lay your cardstock on Stampin’ Up! Grid paper and line up the ends of the tape. The ends trim off easily with a pair of scissors.

Next, sprinkle the glitter on, tap lightly and then gently brush the excess off with a small soft paintbrush. A tip on collecting the glitter is to use a coffee filter.  For some reason the fibers in coffee filters help with the static and the glitter (and embossing powder) slides easily back into their jars. You can even use different colours of glitter. Since the glitter sticks so well to the tape the colours won’t drop into another container and get all mixed up.

I always use Dazzling Diamonds glitter as its ultra fine but this technique also works with other kinds.

Here is a  card I made using this technique.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you give this technique a try!

Make It Monday #7: Petal Garden Designer Series Paper

Make It Monday #7: Petal Garden Designer Series Paper

Vellum is a beautiful, versatile and fragile type of paper that can add uniqueness to any project. There are lots of ways to use vellum and today I’m going to share with you just one idea.

I love the  Petal Garden DSP, but I find that it is bright and vibrant, and I sometimes struggle to use it.  So I’ve challenged myself to use it.

I’ve started by selecting different patterns from the Petal Garden DSP, the flowers seemed to be to vibrant and bright for me and took away from the greeting which was my main focus on this card. So I placed a piece of Vellum the same size as the floral piece to soften it a bit.

I stamped my greeting from Thankful Thoughts stamp set and cut it out using the Layering Circle Framelits.

Click HERE to Download your free PDF Tutorial

Supplies:

  • Stamps – Thankful Thoughts
  • Ink –Memento Black Ink
  • PaperRich Razzleberry CS, Whisper White CS, Vellum
  • Other Double Sided adhesive, Paper snips, Layering Circle Dies, Big Shot, Basic Rhinestones

Dimensions:

  • Rich Razzleberry CS – 9” x 4-1/2” (scored at 4-1/2” to create a 4-1/2” x 4-1/2” cardbase)
  • Whisper White CS – scrap piece
  • Petal Garden DSP – small circle piece 4-3/8” x 4-3/8”, Large floral piece 4”x 4”, small floral piece – scrap piece
  • Vellum – 4” x 4”

Directions:

  1. Stamp your greeting onto a scrap piece of Whisper White CS. Die cut using the layering Circle framelits and Big Shot
  2. Adhere the 4” x 4” large floral piece to the 4-3/8” x 4-3/8” small circle piece leaving equal boarders around all four sides
  3. Place vellum over the top of 4” x 4” large floral piece, adhere the die cut greeting to the bottom right.
  4. Place adhesive behind the greeting piece and stick the vellum over the 4” x 4” large floral piece.
  5. Fussy cut a set of small flowers from the small floral piece of DSP, and adhere to the greeting as shown above
  6. Adhere scattering Rhinestones. You’re done!
