Masking

Today is the last card to feature in our World Card Making event, and today I will show you a clever way of masking using die cuts yields a fabulous faux label look! I will share with you a  different yet equally fun inky technique by multi-piece stamping.

Petite Pairs, Flower Patch

Tips & Tricks to Note

    • If you don’t have a frame die, you can accomplish this technique using two different sizes of dies, one for the outside of the frame and one for the center. Try mixing and matching shapes for fun!
    • Keep your frame masks for future projects by saving them on a piece of plastic—leftover packaging works great for this
    • Have a stamp set with multi-piece images… and you aren’t quite sure how it’s supposed to work? Try Googling the name of the stamp set! You’re likely to come up with loads of examples of how others have used the set to create scenes, flower clusters, and more.

Directions

      1. Fold a 21 x 15cm Whisper White CS in half creating a 10.5 x 15cm cardbase
      2. Position 2 die cut banners from the Banner Framelits, the smaller inside the larger, on a piece of copy paper.  Secure the frames using washi tape and die cut through the big shot
      3. Separate the three resulting pieces:  the outside negative frame, the positive frame die cut and the center banner.  Reserve the positive frame ato help you position your negatives and for use on  future projects
      4. Center the positive frame die cut onto your Whisper White Cardbase.  Using dotto adhesive center the banner, and next it in the center of the positive frame die cut.  Remove the positive frame die cut, and set it aside.  You now have a masked banner frame on your card
      5. Randomly stamp the flower image in Crisp Cantalope and the center flower using Calypso Coral.  Randomly stamp the flower image again but with Coastal Cabana Ink and the center flower using Bermuda Bay Classic Ink. Stamp the next size flower with Crushed Curry Classic ink. Stamp the smallest flower with Old Olive Classic Ink
      6. Fill a Stampin’ Sprizer with Rubbing Alcohol and a few drop of Pear Pizzazz re inker. Spray onto your card front
      7. Remove the masks
      8. Stamp the greeting in the center using Stazon Black ink.  You’re Done!

Pleated Paper

Watch as I share this fun pleated paper technique! It’s a great way  add dimension and draw attention to a simple focal point—and it’s so easy to do! You could also try this with the many beautiful patterned papers available… just think of the possibilities!

Itty bitty Banners, Bitty Banner Framelits, Sweetheart

Itty bitty Banners, Bitty Banner Framelits, Sweetheart

Tips & Tricks to Note

    • Use a scoring board to create your pleated panel or, if you don’t have a scoring board, use a paper trimmer and a bone folder or stylus.
    • If you want your pleats to be taller and have more dimension, score at 1/4″ or, if you want them to lay flatter, score at 1/8″.

Directions

        1. Score a 21 x 15cm piece of Whisper White CS in half, with a bone folder to create a 15 x 10.5cm cardbase.  Set aside
        2. Score a 6″ x 5 7/8″ (15.2 x 15cm) piece of Real Red CS using a scoring tool at 1/4″, 3/4″, 1 1/2″, 1 3/4″, 2 1/4″, 2 1/2″, 3 1/2″, 3 3/4″, 4 1/2″, 4 3/4″, 5″, 5 1/2″, 5 3/4″.
        3. Trim the last pieces of each side using paper snips
        4. Crease along the score lines.  Start by folding at the 2 1/2″ mark by folding it back  and then accordion fold the remaining score lines, repeat on the other side
        5. Apply Sticky Strip to the back of the Real Red CS along the sides and Stampin’ Dimensional down the center 3 high.
        6. Starting with one side of the pleated panel adhere the 1/2″ wide strip to the 3″ x 5 7/8″ (7.7 x 15cm) piece of Basic Black CS leaving a slight boarder
        7. Adhere the other side of the pleated panel to the Basic Black CS mat leaving a slight boarder, so the center of the pleated panel is loose (popped up). Press down in the center of the pleated panel to adhere it to the mat using Stampin’ Dimentionals 3 high.
        8. Adhere the matted pleated panel to the center  of the Whisper White cardbase
        9. Punch a Heart from Silver Glimmer paper using Sweetheart punch and adhere to the center of the pleated panel using Stampin’ Dimentionals
        10. Stamp your greeting from Itty Bitty Banners on scrap piece of Whisper White CS, and cut out using a big shot and Bitty Banners Framelits
        11. Adhere just below low the Silver Glimmer Heart using stampin’ dimentionals.  You’re done!

Thankyou Arrow

Welcome to Day 2 of my World Card Making creations.  How are you celebrating?  Why not come celebrate the creativity of handcrafted cards by participating with me in one of the below events

Between 1 -6 October I will be posting a card with a video tutorial for you to create at home.

Today’s card features a technique using die cutting, with die cutting being such a popular part of card making these days, I felt it would be good to focus on clean and simple card created with the help of dies. And I think you will love what I have to show you!

Die cutting is perfect for clean and simple designs, thanks to the crisp, clean lines this cutting method offers. Also, there are many eye-catching techniques you can do with little effort, thanks to die cutting.

Today’s card is bold and so very creative! In this video I will shares tips on creating a repeated design to make a clean and simple design.

Starburst Sayings, Square Framelits

Tips & Tricks to Note

  • When using a bold, clear stamp, place a piece of craft foam under your cardstock to provide just a little bit of give to your stamping surface. This will help you achieve a crisp, clear image.
  • To ensure that you don’t have any lint or dust on your stamp that could mar your stamped image, stamp the image a few times on scrap cardstock before moving on to your card.

Directions

    1. Tape the Square Framelits dies together with washi tape to create a nested frame.  Turn frame on an angle (diamond shape facing you) and measure 1″ from the center of the frame on either side.  Place one piece of washi tape on each side of the die at 1″ mark to help you position your cardstock with the die.  You should have 2″ between tape pieces
    2. Cut various colours of cardstock at 2″ wide strips. and position between the tape guides on the nested dies. Secure each using washi tape.
    3. Die cut cardstock using dies and big shot.  Remove die cut pieces from the die.  Repeat until all colours have been cut
    4. Arrange multi-colour chevrons on a large strip of washi tape (sticky side up) You will want to put the pretty side down onto the tape.  Set aside
    5. Fold your piece 21 x 15cm piece of Whisper White CS in half to create a card base (15 x 10.5cm)
    6. Stamp your greeting in the bottom left hand corner using stazon black ink
    7. Apply stampin’ dimentionals to each chevron. Turn the sticky strip over (sticky side down) and adhere chevron down.
    8. Remove washi tape.  You’re Done!

Happy Anniversary

Leon&Kristy-203

This past week my husband and I celebrated our 3rd Wedding Anniversary.  I have an amazing husband who loves and adores me, and likes to leave surprises for me every so often and our anniversary was no exception.  I arrived home late from work (approx. 1:30am)  open the door into the house from the garage and found this.  Love hearts from the door to the kitchen along the bench with chocolates (I love anything chocolate) scattered on the bench.

heartshearts 2There was also a handmade card on the bench which brought tears to my eyes.  I am truly lucky to have such an amazing, wonderful husband.  I was fast asleep when my husband left for work the following morning, we had not seen each other at all that weekend.  (when I arrived home from work, he was asleep, when he left for work – I was asleep).  but I was able to leave him a card to show my appreciation for him.

Do you want to see it?

Countdown to Christmas

Each year our family draw a name out of a hat to decide which sibling, spouse and children we will be buying Christmas presents for.  This year my husband and I were assigned my brother Ashley and his 3 Children aged 4, 3 and 8months.  The holiday catalogue showed an example of a perfect countdown to Christmas (pg 12-13) What a GREAT idea… instead of using muslin bags I decided to make sourcream containers.

morning post numbers

For the containers, I used the Seasons of Style Designer Series Paper Stack.  So easy no cutting necessary.

To make the containers apply the adhesive like this (I recommend using Sticky Strip)

step 1

Roll the container into a tube, than pinch one end closed.  Add treats (or whatever you want to put inside), I put a couple of wrapped lollies plus a note advising what the activity for the day would be.  than pinch the other end closed in the opposite direction.

step 2

Attached the tag using a staple, then adhere the button using a glue dot to hide the staple and your done!

morning post numbers

Some of the activities I included:

Make Christmas Gift tags

Make Rocky Road and add a gift tag that you made and give to someone special

Movie Night and sleepover party

Make pancake breakfast for mum & Dad

Skype Grammie & Grandpa in Prague and tell them about all your adventures

Decorate a Gingerbread house

See the Christmas Lights

Enjoy an ice-cream Sundae

Add a decoration to the Christmas Tree

Don’t forget to leave Santa some treats.

Read a Christmas Story

Do a fun family Activity (Bubble blowing)

I would love to hear idea you may have to add to the 12 days of Christmas activities

Ornament Keepsakes Embossed Christmas Card

Do you like a challenge?  I do!  Recently we’ve started doing monthly team challenges.   Challenges are a great way to use some of the product you wouldn’t normally.  I’ve had heaps of fun doing these challenges and I will be sharing them with you over the next coming weeks.  Our first challenge was a layout challenge.

Challenge #1

Being the first challenge can be hard, and I struggled trying to figure out what I would do.  As this challenge was provided back in November I decide to do a Christmas theme card.  I quite happy how it turned out.
Ornament Keepsakes, More Merry Messages

Directions:

  1. Take a 5cm x 14.8cm piece of Cherry Cobbler CS and temporarily stick it to your grid paper using Dotto adhesive. Run an embossing buddy over the CS.
  2. Ink up the small ornament from Ornament Keepsakes Stamp Set using your Encore Metallic Gold ink pad.  Randomly stamp the image along the 5cm x 14.8cm piece of Cherry Cobbler CS.
  3. Ink up the star image from Warmth & Wonder (HOSTESS SET) from the Holiday Catalogue using your Encore Metallic Gold ink pad.  Randomly stamp the image in the gaps along the stamped 5cm x 14.8cm piece of Cherry Cobbler CS.
  4. Sprinkle gold embossing powder onto the image and tap off the excess.  Heat with a heat tool.
  5. Take a 4.5cm x 14.8cm piece of Brushed Gold CS and scallop one 14.8cm side using the Scallop Edge punch.  Punch a small hole in each scallop using a piercing tool.
  6. Stick the stamped and embossed Cherry Cobbler CS strip onto the scalloped gold CS strip, making sure to leave about a 1.5cm scalloped border showing.
  7. Lay a 20cm piece of Cherry Cobbler seam binding ribbon along the left edge of the Cherry Cobbler CS strip – align the edge of the ribbon with the edge of the CS.  Bring the ends of the ribbon around to the back of the CS and stick them down using Snail adhesive. Set aside for a moment.
  8. Center and stick a 10cm x 14.3cm piece of Whisper White CS to a 14.8cm x 10.5cm Cherry Cobbler card front (created by taking 21cm x 14.8cm piece of Cherry Cobbler CS and folding it in half).
  9.  Stick the Cherry Cobbler CS strip from step 6 onto the card front, about a 7mm in from the left edge of the Whisper White CS.
  10. Stamp the greeting from Many More Messages stamp set onto a piece of Whisper White CS using Black Stazon Ink.  Punch it out with a Modern Label punch and sponge the edges with Cherry Cobbler Classic ink and a wedge of Stamping Sponge.
  11. Punch out another Modern Label Punch pies from a scrap of  Brushed Gold CS, cut in half length ways.  Place on piece of the Brush Gold CS to the Whisper White greeting to the back so that a part of the Brushed Gold CS is showing.  Do the same for the bottom of the greeting
  12. Stick the matted greeting onto the card front using two Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  13. Take a 15cm piece of Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Ribbon and tie it in a knot around the first piece.  You’re done!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  Be sure to check back a bit later because I wanted to share with you my upcoming Stampin’ Class material.

Welcome to week 7 of my 12 weeks of Christmas blitz.

Place Card Treat holder - Ornament Keepsakes

Supplies used for this project:

  • Stamps: Ornament Keepsakes
  • Ink: Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler Classic Ink
  • Paper: Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White CS
  • Accessories: Paper Trimmer, Scoring Blade, Scallop Edge Border Punch, Bone folder, stamping sponges, Paper snips, Stampin’ Dimentionals, Sticky Strip, Labels collection framelits, Holiday Ornament Framelits, Big Shot, SNAIL Adhesive, Bakers Twine
  • Other: Brown Paper Bag

Dimensions:

  • Crumb Cake CS: 3 3/4″ x 7 3/4″ piece and a 2 1/4″ x 3 1/2″ piece
  • Chocolate Chip CS: 2 5/16″ x 3 9/16″ piece, scrap piece
  • Whisper White CS: scrap piece
  • Seasons of Style Designer Paper 2 1/4″ x 3 1/2″ piece
  • Whisper White Bakers Twine: 2 x 2″ pieces

Step-by-Step Directions

Step 1: With the brown paper bag still laying flat, cut the bag 2 ¼” up from the bottom, using a paper trimmer. Make sure you don’t cut through the fold lines on the “bottom” of the bag (measurements may need to be altered depending on size of bag)

Step 1

Step 2: Fold the “bottom” of the bag down, so that you only have the two cut layers at the top of the bag. Scallop along the top of the bag, using a Scallop Edge Border punch. Set aside for a moment.

Step 2

Step 3: With the 7 ¾” side of the 3 ¾” x 7 ¾” piece of Crumb Cake CS butted up against the top of your paper trimmer, score the CS at 2 ½”, 5″ and 7 ¼”..

Step 4: Scallop along the 3 ¾” side of the ½” flap, using a Scallop Edge Border punch.

Step 4

Step 5: Crease along all the score lines, in “valley folds”, using a bone folder. This will be the base of your treat holder

Step 6: Place two strips of sticky strip along the bottom of the paper bag, one along each 3 ½” edge.

Step 6

Step 7: Remove the backing from the Sticky Strip and stick the bag to the base of the treat holder, in the panel next to the scalloped flap. You want the scalloped edge of the brown bag to be toward the inside of the treat holder base not facing the small scalloped flap.

Step 8: Fold the top portion of the bag over and stick a small piece of Sticky Strip tape to the bag. Open up the bag and stick the red liner tape to the center section of the treat holder base. Set aside for a moment.

Step 8Step 8

Step 9: Centre and stick the Seasons of Style DP to the Chocolate Chip CS using SNAIL Adhesive

Step 10: Print your guest’s names onto an  piece of Whisper White CS.

Step 11: Working one guest at a time, center the name in the window of the third smallest die in the Labels Collection Framelits. Hold the die in place with your magnetic plateform and run this through the big shot

Step 12:  Die cut a label from a scrap piece of Chocolate Chip CS, using the third largest die in the Labels collection Framelits and Big shot

Step 13:  Center and stick the name label to the Chocolate Chip CS label, using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Step 13

Step 14:  Center and stick the matted name label to the matted Chocolate Chip CS, using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Step 14

Step 15:  Stamp a ornament image from Ornament Keepsakes Stamp Set onto a scrap piece of Whisper White CS, using Cherry Cobbler Classic ink.

Step 16:  Stamp another ornament image from Ornament Keepsakes Stamp Set onto a scrap piece of Whisper White CS, using Gumball Green Classic ink.

Step 17:  Cut out the two ornaments with the Holiday Ornament Framelits and Big Shot

Step 18:  Punch a hole at the top of the ornamnet and thread through a piece of Whisper White Bakers Twine, hold it in place with a piece of tape of the back.

Step 19:  Stick the Ornament onto the front of the place card/treat holder with a stampin’ Dimentional and bring the end of the Whsiper White bakers twine to the back of and hold in place with a piece of tape.

Step 19

Step 20  Center and stick the matted name label to the treat holder base, to the front panel, using double sided adhesive. (The front panel is the one that will cover the small scalloped flap when the treat holder base is closed.)

Step 20

Step 21:  Tuck some dinner mints or treats into the brown bag. You’re done!
